A New Pocket of Green expands the Assisted Reforestation efforts at WBS

Precious Tree Project Assisted Reforestation Wellbeing Sanctuary in Karatara

It was another productive day at the Well-Being Sanctuary in Karatara (WBS) as we continued our mission to weave more nature back into the landscape. Our focus, as always, is adding another mini-forest pocket of endemic species to the wildlife corridor that stretches across the property.

As usual, the energy shifted up a gear when our VIPs (very important planters) arrived, wasting no time unloading the saplings off the delivery vehicle and getting stuck into the rhythm of planting.

We follow a simple but effective, tried-and-tested methodology to ensure every tree has the best start in its new home:

  1. Select an indigenous tree suited for the site.
  2. Find the perfect spot within the cleared section corridor.
  3. Dig a square hole and place the top soil to the side.
  4. Add our potassium-humus mix to enrich the soil.
  5. Place the tree and fill with our specialised soil blend.
  6. Create a swale to capture and direct rainfall.
  7. Apply a thick layer of mulch to suppress weeds and reduce evaporation.
  8. Water thoroughly, ensuring the root ball is completely soaked.
  9. Welcome the tree to the forest family.
  10. Start again until all sponsored trees are safely planted and a new mini-forest pocket is born!

One of the highlights of our planting days is seeing new volunteers join in and connect with the Earth. Thanks to the newcomers who joined in the tree-planting magic! It’s through these shared efforts that our vision for a the restoration of wildlife corridor comes to life and the landscape truly begins to transform.
