First done as a small sketch based on a pic taken on Hampstead Heath of a kid flying a dragon kite, and later executed as a very large painting in 2 panels. This was the first time I discovered that a successful little sketch simply does not translate when blown up. I had to re-invent the treatment of almost every element, particularly the clouds which needed much more textural interest, and very subtle at that.The dragon kite got tried over and over in various forms and none worked. Eventually the jellyfish which has been a regular visitor to my work took its place at the end of the line, and it worked.
